Planting seeds for your future
“Someone's sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago.”
― Warren Buffett
This was the quote that struck me this week.
i know Warren Buffett is talking about investing our money, but it also made me think about this in the context of aging and movement.
I'm a firm believer that it is never too late to plant a seed, a thought, an action so that years from now you are feeling more joy because of the actions you took today.
So I looked back to see what I did at the age of 25 to prepare me for 35 and 35 for 45 etc.
In my 20's and 30's I was a cardio junky. I never really thought about what that would look like in my 50's. In my 40's & 50's I practiced more mind/body based exercises (yes you know I still like my cardio) but the one thing I learned for sure is that practicing balance every day, and moving my body in all the ways (front, backwards, sideways) mobilizing my hips and lifting weights has made me feel so good and mostly without pain, but definitely without injury.
The seeds I'm planting today to make my 60's, 70's and beyond more joyful will be continuing with my daily balancing practice. Mobility of all my joints in all the ways, building bones with weight lifting, and keeping my core strong to help with my balance and posture, as well as prayer and mindfulness to make me more spiritually happy.
If this seems like you're planting a lot of trees, just start to imagine how you want to be moving and feeling in your next decade and practice those things. Feel free to join me for balancing, core, meditation and a few more ways to build a forest of your future.
...and don't forget to sit a while under the shade.
