Feel all your feelings
Last week during savasana I asked the class to set an intention for the rest of their day. While I ask this, I also participate and what came to me was a bit of a surprise.
I ask to set a positive word or phrase (intention/affirmation) to repeat on the in breath and out breath.
The phrase that popped up for me on this particular day was “I am sad”
~ well I wasn’t planning on that happening.
But, I decided to roll with this word, even though in my head I thought, “BUT this is a negative word!”
It settled my heart, it calmed my breathing, and I realized that as a person who lives in a glass ¾ full mentality, that I need to feel all my feelings.
When people ask how I’m doing, I often respond with Good and Great! I may be feeling just fine, or sad, but always feel the need to spin my feelings more positively. I love to be filled with joy and happiness. I love to see people filled with joy, but I need to learn that it's ok for all of us to be fine, and sad, and tired, and just ok!
So next time you meditate or someone asks you how you are doing - be honest with your feelings, knowing that each feeling is ok.
