A few things I learned when I was 58

This past week, I turned 59.

I decided that to be ready for the next decade; I needed to reflect on my last year to discover what I had learned about myself.

What I learned in mind:

~It is in giving that we receive. Good ole St. Francis was right!  We were blessed to provide scholarships for students, a tank of gas to a stranger, or teach my first breast cancer survivor through the Core Compassion Project (please ask me what this is!)

~I’ve worked hard on my resilience and happiness, and I love to hang with people who help me be happy and make me laugh.

~I’ve learned where my energy is spent best and the value of when I need to say yes and say no.

~Yoga and Pilates will always be my happy place

~I am blessed to teach others that mind and body flexibility is golden.

~Loosing my first adult friend is beyond painful! I know I’m guided by her every day.

~Always be kind!

~Every day is fresh; make it the best adventure you can.

~Stop complaining about getting older; I have no control, so do it gracefully.

What I learned in my body:

~It’s okay to feel stiff- once I start moving, the stiffness disappears!

~ it’s okay to change the workout you had planned.

~It may take longer to recover from a hard workout; use that day for something your body craves.

~My mind may tell my body what to do - find a quiet time to listen to what my body needs.

~Make exercise fun!

~Know that balance and mobility are golden; what I work on now will be tenfold in the future.

~You get tired more quickly; it’s okay to take a wee nap in the afternoon,

~Stop complaining about getting older; I have no control, so do it gracefully.

This past year has been full of pain and full of blessings.  I know that this will continue to happen each year. I’m going to choose gratitude and flexibility each moment of each day.

I hope you can spend time around your Birth - day and see what comes up for you.
