Movement snacks and your fascia

You get out of bed in the morning and your body is tight and stiff.

You get out of the car after a long drive and your body is tight and stiff.

You get out of your work chair after being in it for a while and your body is tight and stiff.

We’ve all been there, and think, WOW, I’m getting old-yes fascia gets tighter as we age.

But, you start to move and you feel less stiff.

This is your fascia tightening up as it does because it supports our organs and muscles, nerves and our blood vessels. Once you start to move it begins to loosen. This is a great short article explaining our fascia.

If we stay inactive our fascia can reshape itself, and it can become damaged from repetitive movements.

This past week someone on instagram asked how people find the time to exercise.  She explained how she doesn’t have time with young kids to add exercise to her day.  I wrote to her and told her to give herself movement snacks.

I’ve spoken of these movement snacks before, but hopefully noting how these snacks can keep your fascia mobile instead of feeling stiff and pain can add some motivation for you.

*Walking between child drop off

*Hold a squat against the car and pushups against the car.

*Balancing while waiting in line

*Calf raises while brushing our teeth.

*When we take a work break, reach arms overhead and side stretch, and back to stretch the front of the legs.

*When you drop a child off at their sport, walk around the field instead of sitting in the chair.

*Deep breathing while waiting in the car or in the store.

*Skipping with your child (or yourself)

*Arm circles to mobilize your shoulders.

It’s easy to think we need to put in the full hour of class, but if we are pressed for time there are a lot of movement snacks that can make you feel good while working your heart, oiling our joints and fascia, and helping us to feel happier instead of stressed.

Head over to my on demand site to try a few snack size classes!
