Help to fix tech neck!

Have you done a side check of your body lately?
Have you looked at how you sit at your desk or in your car?
Have you thought about how much weight is added to your neck and spine with poor posture?

Tech neck, also known as text neck, is becoming quite common. We wake up and head to our desks and we end the night checking in with our phones either reading, watching a show or responding to the emails we didn’t get to. The results of all this head down or forward posture is neck pain, spasms, shoulder stiffness, and headaches.

Imagine asking your neck to hold about 50 pounds of additional weight at 45 degrees of neck angle. That equates to:

  • 1 large sack of potatoes

  • 2 hollow core cinder blocks

  • 5 medium size bowling balls

  • 6 gallons of water

Yikes! What can you do besides holding these items in your arms for strength?

Take frequent breaks from screen time, get up and stretch, hold mobile devices at a higher angle, and exercise.  Exercise gets blood circulating, sending oxygen to nourish and strengthen muscles and mobilize our fascia and joints.

Here are a few quick exercises to strengthen your neck and upper back:

V- put your arms overhead in a V position and pull the arms backwards. Try for 20-30
W - put your arms back in the V position and pull the elbows toward your waist so you come into a W position.  Again try for 20-30.
T - put your arms straight shoulder height (wide) in a T position and pull the arms backwards. 20-30.

Watch this YOUTUBE video if you have any questions or want to do these V,W,T exercises with me.

These 3 moves will help strengthen your upper back, shoulders and neck. Yes, everyday or every other day.  Your neck and shoulders will be so appreciative.  I also like to press the back of my head against a wall to help strengthen my neck muscles.

Give it a try and let me know how it went or if you have any questions.  If you have friends or relatives that could use this work, send them to my Youtube video.
Have a wonderful week!!
