Just Do The Darn Thing!
Just do the darn thing!
5 words that really changed me this year!
This beautiful Pear tree in my yard, just does it's thing! It is constantly changing and each season showing its beauty! The best part is, it doesn't have to overthink or fear anything.
It just…
"Does the darn thing!"
Oh the struggle of being human!
How does change feel to you?
When you read or hear this word, how does it feel in your mind and body. For some, this word elicits fear and for others it elicits excitement.
With change we never know what is next.
As planners and doers and humans, many like to know what they are getting themselves into; thus fear change of any kind. Then we have those who love the challenge and action of change, who love to mix things up and not worry about what is next or what they are getting themselves into.
"Change in the external world can cause great misery when we do not know how to engage and heal ourselves."
This quote from Yung Pueblo made me think of the past year. The fear of Covid, the fear of being in our homes for extended periods of time, of not seeing friends and family, and not knowing what "change" is coming next. Many built walls of fear, and we struggled with how friends and family were dealing with this crazy, changing world around us.
We came to see that we needed to get to know ourselves better as many of us were all we had.
It's hard to look inside and nurture ourselves.
"make sure
the walls
you build
to protect yourself
do not become a prison"
As Yung continues to say, "we all have the right to protect ourselves from pain, but be aware-the more walls we build around ourselves, the less space we have to grow and be free."
I'm typically the person that loves change. If you take class from me you know it will never be the same as it would be too boring for me to teach. I love to travel without a plan, and love when a friend drops in to talk. But, this year I had to change a lot - and when I realized I was more uncomfortable with the changes going on in my life and I heard,
"just do the darn thing"
it became my mantra.
I could step up and embrace these changes, be vulnerable and teach online and bring a course on nutrition and movement to my offerings (with my daughter Maria), as well as other things like go to the grocery store, go to the mall, eat inside at a restaurant or I could stay in my house and build a wall. I choose to keep changing and these 5 words offered me more space to grow and be free.
I'm not here to tell you to change, I'm just here to help support you in your growth and freedom.
