Turning negative thought patterns into positive.
The mind is everything. What you think, you become.-Buddha
This week, we mark the halfway point in the year and also celebrate our freedom as Americans.
When I began my Yoga training, we learned that when a negative thought enters our mind, we can learn to turn it into a positive one. I still work on this everyday, but the knowledge that I am free to work on my positive thoughts has been one of the many valuable parts of my training.
Do you struggle with negative thoughts?
Can you notice the patterns? Do you write them down? Do you recognize that they may be unhelpful or even valid?
In our yoga training, we also learned about affirmations and intention setting, which help us use positive statements when our negative thoughts get in our way. These affirmations also teach us not to dwell on the negative thoughts, but to flip our mindset to find solutions to these negative thought patterns.
For the rest of 2025, give yourself the freedom from negative thought patterns.
How can we do this?
*Being mindful and staying as much in the present moment as we can - not dwelling or fearing the future or bemoaning the past.
*Practicing a gratitude practice. If you don't like to journal - just say it out loud.
*Find some fun activities and surround yourself with positive people.
As I mentioned at the beginning of this letter, I'm still working on cultivating positive thoughts. Knowing that developing a positive mindset takes time and effort, through practice. It is incredible when we can find freedom in letting go of these negative thoughts.
Be kind to yourself and celebrate your progress.
