Looking for signs!
“Signs, Signs everywhere a sign, do this, don’t do that, can’t you read the sign?”
Hopefully you are singing along :)
When I moved from Wisconsin to Illinois at 22, the one thing I noticed while driving home to see my parents was all the signs along the road. In Illinois, I was mostly in cities, so it was billboards, but as I drove along the country roads in Wisconsin, there were so many signs. Every home I drove past, I felt was selling something. Apples, eggs, wood, jelly, honey, cars, motorcycles - you get the idea. Small entrepreneurs everywhere.
As I've been biking and walking the country roads again, I’ve been checking out everyone's signs that notify visitors they've arrived at the right place.
I’ve learned that Michael and Judy have an art studio that I can visit, at another home I can make pottery, and at yet another I can take music lessons. All this is not from Google, but from the signs they placed on the side of the road.
I don’t think I would have seen many of these smaller signs whizzing by in the car. But I stopped by this larger sign and grabbed a few jars of homemade jam.

On to other signs, not so tangible. When I’m teaching yoga and Pilates, I often can tell how you’re feeling by the signs you give with your face. Squeezed eyebrows, eyes that sign that you’re not understanding a cue, or I see signs of a tired or stressed body.
I always feel that my work is about helping you move away from a tense body and flummoxed eyes by giving cues that can help you release into a pose, or providing different types of cues so your brain can figure out what I’m asking of you.
There is a sign by my mom’s house that is my husband's favorite sign, the one that marks the exit from the highway. It makes us laugh every time.
And so it is:
May you find some fun signs along the way as you travel this summer, or notice the type of signs your body is giving to help you find release.
