The 8 best reasons to jump!

Have you jumped lately?

I remember about 4 years ago, my mom said, “I can’t remember the last time I jumped?”  “ I think I just forgot how to do it.”  

 

Then this week I turned on the radio and Van Halen was singing “You might as well jump!”

Do I remember jumping and dancing to that song!

So that’s what has been taking up a bit of space in my mind this week, and I was reminded of the importance of jumping as we age.  

Why do we need to jump?

  1. Bone building,

  2. Lymphatic system health

  3. Strength,

  4. balance,

  5. coordination,

  6. Reaction time

  7. Helps raise our heart rate

  8. And it’s fun!  Well it can be! So let’s make it fun!

 

If you haven’t jumped in a while, how can you get started?

 

  1. Stand with parallel feet and lift the heels to balls of feet.  So you are partially jumping without lifting both legs off the floor. This is enough to get good bone and joint compression and yes your calves will be burning in no time.

  2. Pilates reformer jump board -you get to lie on your back:) 

  3. Jumping on a trampoline

  4. Jumping in the pool

  5. Ready for more?  Start jumping rope, or jumping jacks!

  6. Get into pickleball or tennis, or your ready to run. 

So…a reminder that your never too old to even try to jump a little bit.
