Moving for gardening and springtime!

Here comes Peter Cottontail hopping down the bunny trail.

I used to love singing this song when I was little.  I’m not sure why, but I think it must be how it makes me smile when I sing it.

And I do love Spring and watching the bunnies hopping around!

I was a fall fan for the longest time, but as the years go on, I love the continual renewal and hope that spring offers.

This past week, when I came home from running errands and could no longer stand to look at how messy the front of our subdivision looked, I took a rake, shovel, and lawn bag and started cleaning it up.

It became a reminder that yard work is pretty grueling when we are not used to it. So many squats and holding them for a long time! So much for my hands and shoulders with the digging, pulling, and raking!

But oh, did I feel so accomplished when I was finished.

I felt the spring cleaning happening, and the daffodils were given space to shine.

Needless to say, after an hour, my body was pretty sore.  So, to the foam roller I went the next morning.

I sure didn’t feel like Peter Cottontail hopping down the bunny trail!

But I remind myself that my body can move in so many ways if I keep practicing it.  Even if I’m not holding chair pose or malasana for extended periods, my body understands what I’m asking it to do.  Even though I don’t play in the dirt, I do work on my grip strength, just not for an hour!

As the gardening season begins, practice your gardening movements throughout your day so the soreness or injuries occur less or hopefully not at all.

May you feel like Peter Cottontale feeling good as you hop around your yard.

Happy Spring and Happy gardening to you all!
