In memory of and our summer bucket list.

It seems like these two things don’t really go together, but these were two thoughts that kept coming to me this week.

I was thinking about the upcoming Memorial Day weekend, where we take time to remember those who lost their lives keeping this country the democracy it is. It is also the unofficial beginning of summer. Of course, in the northern part of the United States, we are ready for summer, but the weather is often not.

It also got me thinking about all the things I want to do this summer. As I thought about my summer bucket list, I also thought about my dear friend Paula, whom we lost three years ago, and how much she loved summer and the beach.

In an ode to her and to my wonderful memories of her, I decided to make the beach a part of my summer this year (I’m not as big a fan as she was). I am so fortunate to be surrounded by the beaches of Lake Michigan and the Green Bay, so it will be easy to check off!

The rest of my list consists of:

~Outdoor music

~Biking to new areas

~Hiking new trails

~Going to find some new artwork for our house, so heading to many galleries in Door County

~Taking boat rides and paddleboarding

~Golfing and Pickleball

~Hanging out on my back patio

~Planting a vegetable garden in a community garden

~Visiting all the fun shops in Door County

I think I will be quite busy with lots of fun, remembering those who are not with me, and enjoying summer to the fullest in their memory.

Have you put your summer bucket list together yet? It's such a short season in the Midwest, so enjoy putting some fun things on your list.
