Foot health, starting from the ground up
If you know me in my work world, you know how much I love to learn about our feet. So yesterday I spent the day at the barefoot shoe expo. It was all my favorite teachers in one place. It was so amazing to take short classes with these thoughtful women, passionate about teaching us to strengthen our base(our feet).
In 2020, when the world shut down, and many teachers went online, I was able to take numerous classes through Gate Happens. Where I learned to work on my gate (how I walk). It is still a work in progress, but learning about how my feet work was so helpful to me, and I was able to share it with my students.
Which is always my joy.
When I was looking to help a student with neuropathy. I learned about the company Nabooso. Dr. Emily Splichal is a functional podiatrist and a leader in barefoot training and rehabilitation. I have and continue to use so many of her products, and they have been game-changing for my feet.
I’ve written to you many times about Katy Bowman and her work in human movement. She runs a company called Nutritious Movement and has written many books on the importance of movement for humans. Katy teaches from a scientific perspective but presents her knowledge in easy-to-digest ways. She has an amazing podcast if you're looking for something new.
Seeing all these amazing female entrepreneurs in one room was so fun. Meeting people who have been through back and foot pain and found relief, and want to talk about it, is also fun for me.
On the horizon in this space are companies that make wide- toebox biking shoes, and some are coming out with wide- toebox pickleball/tennis shoes, which are next on my list to try out.
If you are struggling with hip, knee, back issues, plantar fasciitis, check in on these women and the wonderful work they are doing to help us move on from our chronic pain.
