How What Does ‘Time’ Mean?

Lately, I've run into so many people letting me know they don't have time. I started to ponder just what does that mean? What are you spending your time on? Is it something that you enjoy doing or are you spending time on something you don't enjoy doing? So I went to look up the definition of time:

  • As a noun it means: the indefinite continued progress of existence and events in the past, present, and future regarded as a whole.

  • As a verb it means: plan, schedule, or arrange when (something) should happen or be done.

As a noun, we don't have control over this. Time just keeps marching along, whether we want it to or not.

But as a verb - we take action. We have control over how we want to spend our time, beyond our work or family obligations.

I decided perhaps it's a shift in our mindset. What do I want to do with my time?

When someone says to you they don't have time to: garden, cook, clean, exercise, write a note or call a friend, take a bath, read a book, volunteer etc. perhaps ask: what do you like to do?

I challenge you to bridge this thought of "I don't have time" to "what do I want to do with my time?"

Schedule what you're passionate about in your calendar. I always put my yoga class that I attend in my calendar, so I can commit to it. On my day off, I find a bike trail to ride. For years, I decided I didn't "have time" to cross stitch. I do; as I watch another Netflix series. What I came to realize is that I'm not enjoying it, and sitting for too long hurts my back so I decided I will finish this project, and see what may be next.

Find what YOU love to do and do it with joy! I find that my time spent doing what I love gives me the energy & creativity to do the things I don't really enjoy. We all have a little bit of time to give to what we love.

Let's continue to believe in the magic and grace of time and find treasures in the gifts we were given - difficult and easy ones. Let's bridge with love, peace and joy into 2021 and not make excuses for not having time.
