Be Still and Flourish

Be still and Flourish~
"Why have we become so well trained in multi-tasking, going from one meeting to another, and ruminating without giving ourselves any time to pause and be still?"~Marc Brackett

Today is World Mental Health Day~

What does this mean to you? Will you take time to rest today? Will you reach out to a friend who needs a listener? Or will you reach out to be listened to? Will you take a moment to reset yourself before your work week? What do you need to take care of yourself?

In my yoga and pilates classes, I ask you to listen to your body. It tells us what we need- we just need to be still and listen. Many times we run from one thing to the next, and never really tune in to what our body needs and wants.

On Tim Ferris' podcast he was interviewing Diana Chapman who is a co-founder of the Conscious leadership group, and she speaks of A Whole body YES, A whole body NO and a subtle NO.

" the idea is that your body knows when there’s a no, when there’s a yes, and when there’s what I’m going to call a subtle no, and we say anything other than a whole-body yes is a no- it’s easy to hear those screaming no's, but not so easy to hear the subtle no."

“Anything other than a ‘whole-body yes’ is a no.”Diana Chapman

Diana walks Tim through this meditation of how your body feels when you visualize what a "whole body YES" feels like, What a "whole body NO" feels like and how a subtle NO feels and why she believes a subtle no is really a no.

Walking through this meditation was enlightening to me. I work hard on tuning in to my bodies needs, but I still have trouble with a subtle no. This was a reminder to really tune in to this subtle no.

As you feel what YOU need on World Mental Health Day, walk through this meditation (check out the podcast-or the print version of the podcast if you need more information) or just bring to mind times that you were so sure of a YES, and a NO and be aware of the subtle no's in your work, family, & volunteer life.
