Being kind to ourselves helps us be kind to others
This past Thursday was World Kindness Day.
In these chaotic times, it serves as a reminder that the world is actually quite kind.
The news leads us to believe that people are generally mean. But reading this article reminded me how kind people really are. I also started subscribing to emails that bring happy, positive news.
If we want to be kind to others, we must first be kind to ourselves. If we harbor negative thoughts, our actions may be negative, which is never enjoyable to us, the people we surround ourselves with and the world.
When our nervous system is regulated, kindness is easier. When our nervous system is dysregulated or overwhelmed, being kind can feel draining rather than inspiring.
How can we be kind to ourselves? Especially as the holiday craziness arrives.
Take a few moments and breathe.
Walk around your house if that’s all you can get in for movement for the day, or do some short bursts of jumping.
Work on your Vegas Nerve
Smile- even if it is just for you.
Establish a calming and healthy morning and evening routine.
Have a night out with friends to get some good laughing in.
Take a yoga class-find a friend to go with if you don’t want to go by yourself.
Listen or read a loving kindness meditation. I also have one in my membership.
There are so many beautiful ways to be kind to yourself, so we can, in turn, take our kindness out to the world.
